The new facility will support chromatography resin development, process development and closer technical collaboration with European Life Sciences customers.
On 18 June 2026, Sunresin officially opened its first European site in Uppsala, Sweden.
Located at Uppsala Business Park, the new facility will provide a European base for chromatography resin development, process development, technical services and customer collaboration.
The opening represents an important step in Sunresin’s international growth and brings the company’s scientific and applications teams closer to pharmaceutical and biotechnology customers across Europe.
Why Uppsala?
Uppsala was selected for a clear reason. The city has a long history in chromatography and bioprocessing, together with a strong network of pharmaceutical companies, universities, research organisations and biotechnology startups.
For Sunresin, this makes Uppsala the right place to strengthen technical collaboration with European customers and support the development of new chromatography resins and purification processes.
“Sunresin has grown by staying close to science, industry and the needs of our customers,” said Xiaokang Kou, CEO of Sunresin. “Uppsala connects our manufacturing and technical capabilities in China with one of Europe’s strongest Life Sciences communities. We see this as the beginning of a long-term commitment to our customers and partners across Europe.”

The Uppsala site will focus on resin development, process development, technical services and customer collaboration. It will provide a local base where customers can discuss purification challenges, evaluate new materials and work more closely with Sunresin’s scientific and applications teams
Science at the Centre of the Opening
The Grand Opening brought together customers, partners, researchers, industry experts and representatives from Uppsala for a full day of scientific discussion, facility tours and celebration.

Hans Johansson, General Manager of Sunresin Sweden, introduced the mission of the new site and its role in connecting Sunresin’s global capabilities with the chromatography expertise already present in Uppsala.
The scientific program looked at several areas shaping the future of Life Sciences.
Jonathan Royce discussed how the growing diversity of molecular structures is changing protein purification. Mats Lundgren presented developments in next-generation mucosal vaccines. Tiago Matos explored the transition from reactive to predictive pharmaceutical manufacturing. Cecilia Lindskog introduced the Human Protein Atlas and its relevance to biomarker research, drug development and human biology.
Guests also toured the new laboratories and application areas before attending the official ribbon-cutting ceremony.
Per Lundequist, Head of Unit for Business and Tourism Development at Uppsala Municipality, welcomed Sunresin to the city and highlighted the value of international Life Sciences companies joining the local business and innovation ecosystem at Uppsala Business Park.

Celebrating 25 Years of Sunresin
The opening took place during Sunresin’s 25th anniversary year.
Founded in Xi’an, China, in 2001, Sunresin has grown into an international provider of resin technologies for separation, purification, chromatography, solid-phase synthesis and biocatalysis.
The day concluded with a gala dinner overlooking Uppsala, where guests and colleagues celebrated both milestones: 25 years of Sunresin and the opening of its first European site.
“Our ambition is to support resin and process development for the pharmaceutical industry while creating opportunities to work closely with customers and the scientific community,” said Hans Johansson. “Uppsala gives us the experience and environment needed to develop those collaborations.”
With the facility now open, the Sunresin Sweden team will begin working with customers and partners on new resin technologies, purification processes and application development projects.
The doors are open. The work in Uppsala has begun.
