Collaboration combines Sunresin’s resin manufacturing expertise and regional supply capabilities with ChromaGenix’s synthetic ligand-based purification technologies to support cell and gene therapy developers across Asia, Europe and the Americas
New York and Raleigh, N.C., July 14, 2026 – Sunresin and ChromaGenix today announced a cooperation agreement to support global cell and gene therapy customers with advanced chromatography technologies for the purification of adeno-associated virus vectors (AAV).
The collaboration brings together complementary expertise in purification technology design, resin manufacturing, synthetic peptide affinity ligand development and regional customer support. Together, the companies will provide access to two purification technologies: AvXcel™, designed for serotype-agnostic capture of AAV1-9, rh10, and select engineered serotypes and novel capsids, and two novel resins developed for the selective removal of host cell proteins and DNA from viral vector and antibody process streams.
Under the agreement, Sunresin will supply and support the resins across Asian markets, while ChromaGenix will continue to serve customers in Europe and the Americas. The companies will work together to help AAV developers evaluate and implement the technologies within their own downstream processes, including considerations around serotype coverage, recovery, impurity clearance, elution strategy and scale-up requirements.
AAV manufacturing programs often require different purification strategies and extensive re-optimization for individual serotypes for individual serotypes, adding complexity to process development, validation and scale-up. Expanding access to these technologies is intended to help developers move closer to platform purification of AAV by enabling more flexible downstream processes that can support multiple AAV products while addressing impurity clearance and product quality requirements.
“Cell and gene therapy developers need purification technologies that are technically robust, scalable and easier to apply across different AAV programmes,” said Fred Ghanem, Vice President of the Life Science Division, SUNRESIN. “Our cooperation with ChromaGenix combines complementary strengths: ChromaGenix’s synthetic ligand-based purification technologies and Sunresin’s expertise in chromatography development, manufacturing, supply reliability and customer support across Asia. It gives customers access to a practical platform for both AAV capture and impurity removal.”
“Broad serotype coverage can simplify downstream development and reduce the need to redesign the capture step for every new AAV candidate,” said Chris Major, CEO, CHROMAGENIX. “Its synthetic ligand design also offers developers unique process options, including near-neutral elution conditions that can improve functional recovery, reduce immediate neutralization requirements and shorten time-in-facility compared with more acidic elution workflows. By working with Sunresin, their expertise allows us to improve access to these technologies in Asia while providing customers with the high standard of regional scientific and technical support needed to evaluate them within their own processes.”
The cooperation reflects the growing need for downstream platforms that can support increasingly diverse viral vector pipelines without adding unnecessary process complexity. By combining serotype-agnostic affinity capture with selective impurity removal, Sunresin and ChromaGenix aim to help customers develop cleaner, more scalable and more consistent AAV manufacturing processes.
